Step flashing restoration
Re-establish woven metal courses with the roof covering.

Chimney interfaces
Step flashing, counter-flashing and chimney-related leak correction on Metro Vancouver roofs.
What is chimney flashing?
Chimney flashing repair restores the metal interfaces that shed water where a masonry or framed chimney meets the roof planes.
Who this is for
Owners with leaks at chimney corners, rusted counter-flashing, or deteriorated cricket details.

Typical causes
Methodology
Process
Share photos of the chimney and any interior stains
Inspect all chimney faces and roof intersections
Written scope for the metal courses to be rebuilt
Install step, counter and cricket details correctly
Re-integrate the covering and review the result
Materials & systems
Re-establish woven metal courses with the roof covering.
Restore upper metal termination into masonry or cladding details.
Improve upslope water diversion on wide chimneys when required.
Metro Vancouver climate
Chimney corners are high-stress wet zones in wind-driven Lower Mainland rain; surface tar is not a lasting substitute for metal courses.
When this service is appropriate
When the chimney and surrounding roof field can support correct reflashing.
When another service may fit better
If the field roof is at end of life, reflashing is often best combined with replacement planning.
When repair may make sense
Chimney reflashing when the roof field remains serviceable.
When replacement may make sense
Combine with reroof when the field cannot support durable integration.
Scope
The actual scope is established after assessment. Revolin Roofing does not publish a one-size-fits-all price, lifespan or assembly because those depend on the building and selected system.

Questions
Chimney flashing repair restores the metal interfaces that shed water where a masonry or framed chimney meets the roof planes.
Chimney flashing is a common weak point after reroofs: if counter-flashing was reused or step flashing was not properly rewoven, the new covering sheds water straight into an old failure. The chimney interface has to be detailed as its own assembly.
Step flashing carries water over the shingles; counter-flashing is the upper metal course let into the masonry that covers the step flashing's vertical leg. Without a sound counter-flashing termination, water running down the chimney face goes straight behind the step metal.
Wide chimneys on the downslope side collect water and debris against their upslope face. A cricket — a small diverting ridge — sheds that water around the chimney. Whether one is warranted depends on chimney width, roof pitch and observed conditions.
As an emergency stopgap, tar can slow a leak. As a repair, it fails: it shrinks, cracks and traps water behind it while hiding the metal failure underneath. A lasting correction re-establishes the metal courses.
