What is metal roof replacement?

Is a metal roof noisy in the rain?
On a residential reroof over solid decking with underlayment and insulation below, rain noise is far less than most people expect — the loud association comes from panels over open framing. Acoustic expectations are still discussed during system selection.
Standing seam versus exposed-fastener metal — what is the difference?
Standing seam conceals fastening on clips beneath raised seams, allowing panel movement and keeping gasketed screws out of the weather. Exposed-fastener panels cost less but carry long-term fastener maintenance. For premium residential work, standing seam is usually the recommendation.
Can a metal roof be installed over my existing shingles?
Sometimes structurally possible, but tear-off is generally preferred so the deck can be inspected and the underlayment and flashing system built correctly. Trapping an old covering also complicates future diagnosis.
Do metal roofs work on complex roof shapes?
Yes, but complexity is where metal projects are won or lost: hips, valleys, dormers and dead-end details demand skilled metalwork and increase cost. Geometry review is the first step in deciding whether metal suits the home.
